Our Environment

We are a small hotel in a small country but our commitment to helping our environment is a big issue for us. Wherever possible we undertake sustainable practices that will help to save energy, reduce waste and ultimately care for the world we live in. We believe that every small step counts.

Recycling

We recycle glass, plastic, paper, cardboard and aluminium and tin every day.

Bokashi

We have a “Bokashi” system in our kitchen. A revolutionary fermentation process that turns our kitchen waste into a rich soil conditioner. This is then placed in our garden and around our indoor plants.
This unique composting system uses the revolutionary EM (Effective Micro-Organism) Bokashi to create the ideal conditions for airtight (anaerobic) composting.
The eco-friendly Bokashi Bucket and EM Bokashi eliminate the odours and unpleasantness associated with putrefaction and decay.
We are able to compost almost every kitchen food waste in our Bokashi Bucket including fruit and vegetables, prepared foods, cooked and uncooked meats and fish, cheese, eggs, bread, coffee grinds, tea bags, wilted flowers and tissues.

Assistance from our guest

In each bathroom we have a note that allows guests to let us know if they would like their bath linen laundered. This has had a large impact on our laundering requirements, reducing electricity and water costs significantly, without compromising our service.

Enviroment

Environmentally friendly cleaning

We use the ENJO cleaning system which allows us to us to reduce chemical use by up to 90% on site. This innovative technology restricts chemicals entering our local sewage system, provides a safer and cleaner environment for our guests and reduces water consumption. The cloths in the ENJO range contain microscopically small fibers that are designed to reach into the smallest pores of all room surfaces to clean away dirt and bacteria. Developed from 15 years of research, these cloths allow us to clean faster, safer, more effectively and with less impact on the environment than traditional methods. ENJO has ISO & HACCP accreditation & has been accepted onto the Sensitive Choice Programme by the Asthma & Respiratory Foundation of New Zealand for asthma & allergy sufferers.
